Does Originality Exist?

When it comes to many things, fashion, movies, hobbies, music, everyone is striving to be original. Many would probably think that the music industry is definitely lacking in originality...or is it. I have to admit that there are so many new bands that come out each day and many of them lack intelligence and meaning to their songs. Most lack originality, but it is a challenge these days to be completely original. All bands, in some way or another, have been influenced by previous bands, and those bands were influenced by previous bands, and the chain keeps going. The definition of original is fresh, new, arising independently, inventive; most music does not possess any of these definitions. I know someone could argue that today's punk music is very original, but the sound is influenced by the underground punk in the late 80's early 90's. Have you ever listened to the radio and hear two different songs by two different bands, yet you swear that it's the same band playing those two songs? I know there are times that it is hard to differentiate two bands because their supposed unique sounds are very much alike one another.
There are quite a few bands that have unique characteristics to them, but are still products of influential bands born into the exponential growth of rock.
