First off I have to say that many people, including friends of mine, are unaware of the talent pool outside of the USA. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the great American bands, but it's important to venture outside of the US. There is a country with both great sceneries, architecture, and music...Italy!!! One of my recent favorite bands would be LaCuna Coil. I first saw them live at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA in May 2004 and loved them ever since. This gothic band features two lead singers, a guy and a girl. It's rare to see bands with two lead singers instead of a lead singer and backup singers. The best comparison I can come up with is they are like a harder core and darker Evanesscence.
LaCuna Coil is not only known for their sounds, but the energy they put into their shows is astounding. You can tell that they are there for the audience and not simply for the money. They have their own style without being over the top.
Their lyrics and songs do not reflect the typical angry gothic music that most would come across nowadays. The song lyrics can relate to anyone's life. The one song that most may recognize thanks to MT2's Headbangers Ball is "Heaven's a Lie." This song relates to people's destinies, and that maybe you were not destined to do what you thought you were to do. It also suggests opening your mind up to other options and to think outside of the box when it comes to what to do for careers and hobbies.
